Nate Lockett has spent his career looking for the system underneath the problem and asking what people could do if the system worked better.
A technologist, entrepreneur, business strategist, and founder of Think Mission and Think Insights, Nate works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, software, data, operations, and human-centered organizational design. His career has moved through finance, securities, retail analytics, data leadership, consulting, and product development, giving him an unusual ability to connect executive judgment with hands-on technical execution.
That pattern was visible early. At Best Buy, Nate designed databases and automation supporting decisions across millions of products; credited with recovering more than $2 million in expenses within three months and contributing to $32 million in realized savings. He later deepened his work in data strategy and automation before founding Think Insights, which has evolved into a product and technology studio helping founders, nonprofits, and growing teams turn difficult operational problems into useful software, systems, and technology capability.
His work with mission-driven organizations revealed a more urgent challenge: nonprofits were being asked to adopt increasingly powerful technology while often operating with limited staff, fragmented systems, and little dedicated technical leadership. Nate’s response was Think Mission, an AI-powered social impact operating system designed around nonprofit operations rather than adapted from a commercial model.
The philosophy behind that work is what he calls capacity-first AI. Instead of beginning with how much human work technology can replace, Nate begins with where people need capacity. He advocates automating repetitive administrative work while protecting the places where judgment, empathy, accountability, relationships, and community trust matter most.
That philosophy also anchors his forthcoming book, Mission Capacity: How Nonprofits Can Use AI to Do More Without Becoming Less. Through the book, his companies, workshops, and educational work, Nate is building toward a future in which sophisticated technology is not reserved for organizations with sophisticated resources.
For him, the promise of AI is not fewer people. It is more human capacity for the work only people can do.
